Nashcopy Round Guernsey

That’s a Wrap. The final race of the Nashcopy Navigational series the ‘Round Guernsey’ was held on Saturday.

The series comprises of seven races:

* Les Dents

* Round Herm

* Round Sark

* Round Sark & Herm

* Hanois

* Herm via Tobars

* Round Guernsey

The prestigious series of navigational races is contested by RCIYC yachts, with some of the races first being raced for 100 years ago.

Saturday saw 9 yachts take to the water for our own ‘Round the Island Race’ the Round Guernsey Race. There was a good NE wind blowing with gusts of 20 kts+

The course saw the yachts leave the Little Russel in a northerly direction before bearing away at Platte Fougere across the top of the Island and then on down the west coast to Lihou Island. The fleet turned at Cat Rock (off the Hanois) and were hard on the wind along the south coast to Jerbourg and on to the finish at Castle Cornet.

Sun of a Gun 3 were first over the line in a time of 3 hours 48 minutes and 52 seconds, however, this was not enough as the winner on corrected time was Martin Priest’s Fandangle, Martin Ozard’s BlackJack second and Martin Boyde’s Jostler third.

Meanwhile in class 2 Ian Swan’s Atalanta secured first place over Nigel Loller’s Odins Raven came second by 45 seconds on corrected time, this after nearly 5 hours sailing!
