Royal Channel Island Yacht Club (Guernsey)

NashBash 2024

That’s a Wrap. The final race of the Nashcopy Navigational series the ‘Round Guernsey’ was held on Saturday.

The prestigious series of navigational races is contested by RCIYC yachts, with some of the races first being raced for 100 years ago.

Following the race, the evening saw the famous, or is it infamous? NashBash at the Club, combined with the prizegiving for both the Round Guernsey and the Overall series winners.

Around 45 eager skippers and crew came to the Club for an evening of thanks and celebration.

The evening got underway at 19:30 with a short introduction from our Commodore, Peter Lloyd, who welcomed everyone, then it was without further ado, straight onto the prize givings, both for today’s race and for the overall winners of the Nashcopy Navigational series of the seven races which started back in May.

For today’s race, the Nashcopy Round Guernsey Sun of a Gun 3 were first over the line in a time of 3 hours 48 minutes and 52 seconds, however, this was not enough as the winner on corrected time was Martin Priest’s Fandangle with Martin Ozard’s BlackJack second and Martin Boyde’s Jostler third.

Meanwhile in class 2 Ian Swan’s Atalanta secured first place over Nigel Loller’s Odins Raven came second by 45 seconds on corrected time, this after nearly 5 hours sailing!

Now for the big one, the overall series winners.

Despite best attempts of the weather to stop some of the races, we managed to get all seven races sailed, albeit with sadly, but understandably reduced turnout for some of them.

In all 16 yachts entered for the series, a great turnout, thank you. Martin boyde’s Jostler achieved four firsts and was the runaway winner on 7 points with the Holmes/Hughes/Lloyd’s Sun of a Gun 3 second and Clive Le Tiisier’s Jak Too 3rd.

The usual bottled prizes were presented by Clive and Sam from Nashcopy and were, as usual, gratefully received.

Following the prize giving Rear Commodore (Sail) Andy Round declared the buffet open and the celebrations continued into the night.
